MS Publisher - feather (fade) object edge??

Post by dasadler »

In MS Publisher 2007, I am creating a three-fold brochure and would like to have a rounded rectangle on each panel filled with a background color that fades into white around the edge. I can't seem to find how to do this. Any ideas? The panels will contain text on top of the color filled object.

I think you'll need another piece of software to achieve the effect you want:
Feather Edges in Publisher
(unless 2007 does things 2003 can't!)

Thanks Leif... that's what I thought - just wanted someone smarter than me to confirm. As a work around, I copied the object into Irfanview (graphics viewer), the copied that into Word where Word recognized it as a picture rather than an Office object. Then, I could feather the edge with Word's picture formatting... then copy/paste back into Publisher.

More trouble than it's worth. I will look at another application.

Does Irfanview not have native feathering or fading? (I use Snagit which has a range of 'edge' effects.)

Irfanview can do a simple 3D button effect (Image | Effects | 3D Button) but not a feather edge. Nor can I find a feather edge effect in the default set of of filter plugins for Irfanview. Perhaps Google can find a filter that can be added to Irfanview to do this (not found anything yet but I've only had a quick look),

Thanks for the ideas... I, too, have looked to no avail. I will suggest it as a future enhancement to Irfanview.
