Full lyrics and song
I've been having this rather haunting tune going through my mind and for the life of me, I can't remember all of it or recall the name of the song itself. I think it was even a theme or background music from a movie some years ago.
Can anyone help here and or give me link to the song?
The first lines are:
"Home is the hunter, home from the hill. Home is the sailor home from the sea."
Can anyone help here and or give me link to the song?
The first lines are:
"Home is the hunter, home from the hill. Home is the sailor home from the sea."

Re: Full lyrics and song
The above quote is by Robert Louis Stevenson and can be found hereUnder the wide and starry sky,
Dig the grave and let me lie.
Glad did I live and gladly die,
And I laid me down with a will.
This be the verse you grave for me:
Here he lies where he longed to be;
Home is the sailor, home from sea,
And the hunter home from the hill.
Regards

Re: Full lyrics and song
Don, Thanks for that input. I'm sure that the song and part of it's lyrics were indeed taken from Stevenson. The song I'm thinking of, appears to be adapted and rearranged from it. The last few lines were used to start the tune still running in my back brain!!Don Wells wrote:The above quote is by Robert Louis Stevenson and can be found hereUnder the wide and starry sky,

In addition to being used in a movie background, it is used occasionally in a PBS ad. PBS was no help because they need a time and date of the appearance or airtime.
I hope I'm not the only person who gets these things running in their mind!

Re: Full lyrics and song
There is also a poem by A.E. Housman (of "A Shropshire Lad"), clearly inspired by the one by Robert Louis Stevenson, since it is titled RLS:
Home is the sailor, home from sea:
Her far-borne canvas furled
The ship pours shining on the quay
The plunder of the world.
Home is the hunter from the hill:
Fast in the boundless snare
All flesh lies taken at his will
And every fowl of air.
'Tis evening on the moorland free,
The starlit wave is still:
Home is the sailor from the sea,
The hunter from the hill.
Best wishes,
Hans

Re: Full lyrics and song
You're not, for sure! I have it even worse. I sometimes wake in the middle of the night with a melody in my head and no lyrics to help me identify it. In my case it's usually a classical piece and I can't (won't) go around humming it to people to see if anyone can help me identify it. Embarrassing to say the least.viking33 wrote:I hope I'm not the only person who gets these things running in their mind!

It sounds like there are quite a few variations out there but so far, still not the version that is driving me "bonkers."
Please, post any other possibilities.

Hans is working on that, but he has to get the app that allows us to smell aromas done first.

You're a man of irony, Bob! One day, I seriously thought of "humming" an MP3 file and posting it here, but I changed my mind, not willing to risk the "abuse" I might take for doing so!viking33 wrote:If there was a way to hum it on the Lounge, I would!!

OK pal, it's your turn! IT WORKS, can you believe this? AND, I don't have to let you guys hear MY singing, just the successful result. You can bet, since this happens to me occasionally, I'll be bookmarking this one!viking33 wrote:I'd try it if BigAlDoc would too. But you guys are REALLY asking for it. I sang my mystery song for 10 seconds and it came back within seconds with several confirming singings AND the correct name of this piece:
Für Elise(Elise) By Ludwig Van Beethoven

Hi Al, I also like this version. Jim Henson was a genius!Bigaldoc wrote:OK pal, it's your turn! IT WORKS, can you believe this?
