Take the 'Pilot's' test below. Warning - it can become addictive!

Anyone here know where Amsterdam is?
This is quite a good test; Round 2 taking away the city dots means one has to know where in the country a city is, not just do a multiple-choice question.

Good Find.

It nearly was, I know. Charles II has been kicked out of Turkey and is making his way back through Austria; Peter The Great has gone back to the Baltic and his galleys are stripping the coast of Finland working their way around the Gulf Of Bothnia, ...

This makes it clear now why on my AirTrans trip Toronto-Manchester 5 years ago we went to Amsterdam and then took a flight to Manchester. Presumably England is now officially a colony of Holland?
Or has the North Sea receded once again?

25536 - Not too bad for an American when none of the destinations were in the Western Hemisphere. I missed Kiev most badly.

I hereby resign as navigator on any aircraft flying more than 2 miles away. Particularly when my maps don't have little dots on them to give me hints. :groan:

Flying Lufthansa can also be mighty dangerous.
For one thing I can tell that they must be running on empty most flights by grossly underestimating fuel needs.
When you are told to fly to Frankfort, try landing in Toronto Canada (it's the city with a pointy-spike sticking up out of the snow)
You'll be told that you are out by only 1,604 miles.
Now, I ask you ...!

Zurich to Chicago? 1,793 miles.

P.S. Apparently planes bounce when they hit a body of water.

Those are airmiles! As the crow flies the distance is about 3933 standard miles. From this we can derive that 1 airmile ~ 2.45 standard miles.

No, they're not! Airmiles are what I collect when I buy groceries.

I expected that Hans would do well and that Chris would go off topic and then disect the issue. Bob's score was incredible for an American. But Paul's pun took me quite by surprise. Good one, Paul.

I haven't traveled in almost 30 years, but still managed a bit more than 22,000 on my only try (I don't fight success).

We’re back to the fanfare issue, aren’t we?
You could at least have said "Chris would go off topic quite well and then dissect the issue quite as well".

:guilty:

Actually all I did was apply a few boundary conditions or boundary tests; they are always fun.

Yup - I've been practicing. Now all I need is the $100000 per annum that the real pilots get!

Hi Doc

Addictive indeed!!

Having been in air cargo for 38 ofdd years I thought it would be a doodle and hovered around the low 29,000's for a few times but then got 29715. Having taken off like a craze among all of our worldwide offices I thought I had got it nailed on behalf of the Brits but then last night Antonio from our Madrid office posted 29772  I have tried to restore my honour this morning but although I can beat my previous best I can't get within 20 of her score.

It is obvious that the max is 30,000 but I wonder if there is a fail safe built in there somewhere to stop the perfect score
