Vedic Mathematics

Post by BobH »

Knowing that we have some math(s) boffins here, I wonder if any of them are familiar with Vedic Math, and would care to comment?

From what I saw, most or all of these are well-known arithmetic shortcuts. I taught a few of them when I was a maths teacher.

These "tricks" can be handy, and they're certainly clever, but they're not deep mathematics.
Best wishes,
Hans

There was something around at the time called the Trachtenberg system of speed mathematics, which appears to have similarities. Hans will be able to say if these mechanisms are an implementation of some of the simpler aspects of Number Theory.

There is a clear similarity in the general method for multiplication. Trachtenberg also divised individual methods for multiplying by a series of small numbers.
