 didn't I say moved 'down' south or 'up' north as appropriate?

Quite so, Leif, but why so hesitant about "marriage" and "fatherhood"

Because marriage and fatherhood are always upward.

Or so my family tell me.

You do need to know the IATA three letter, or ICAO four letter (See Payerne above - not a commercial airport), Airport or City codes. Some are quite reasonable, LON = London, LHR = London Heathrow, YTO = Toronto Ontario, YYZ = Toronto Pearson.

So for Vancouver to Geneva I put in YVR-GVA, but I could have put in YVR-YYZ-YUL-AMS-GVA (which was how my ticket was issued)

Have fun.

I don't want to go into detail, but let's say I am much happier now than I was then when I thought I was so smart and going places. Sure I don't want to be out on the prairie for the rest of my life (although it does preserve you rather well), I finally realized that only you can make yourself happy. Of course, it helps having a kitty to remind you that no matter how lofty you might think yourself, who cleans their litter box? You do!
When one cat leaves, another mysteriously shows up.

No hesitation, it's just that neither of these amazing events involved me moving to a new part of the country.

Bother. In 1976 I moved from Newcastle, NSW, Australia, to Omaha Nebraska, USA, but since 1977 I have only moved from Omaha to Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. As always, a day early and a dollar short.

Not likely to be your actual route of travel, but here is your map:

Since this has turned into a hijacked airplane thread I'll add my 2dth.
1977 Gawler SA to Adelaide, about 25 miles
1977 Adelaide to Long Whatton UK, about 10,000 miles
1978 London UK to Paris 216 miles
1980 London to Perth, 9,000 miles
1982 Perth to Singapore, 2,400 miles
1982 Singapore to Toronto, 9,300 miles
1993 Toronto to Perth, Adelaide and back 25,000 miles (completed circumnavigation)
1998 Toronto to Manchester UK and back 6,800 miles
2005 Toronto to Manchester UK and back 6,800 miles
2005 Toronto to Manchester UK and back 6,800 miles

With the exception of the last 4 these are residential changes.
The last 4 trips are family-induced.

All-up a total of about 71,000 miles.
But this doesn't include business & pleasure trips around North America by car and by plane.

Business trips? You want to include business trips? Well since 1977 I've done just over 1,8m miles (2,9m km) or 7.54 times the distance to the Moon.

Edited to delete the boasting, not in keeping with the spirit of the lounge. Apologies if anyone was offended. I kept the reference to the distance to the moon only because Hans had commented (politely) on it.
