charity concert in north London

Post by stuck »

I realise advertising is not allowed but I'll risk getting banned anyway...

If anyone here enjoys choral music and North London is not to far away, then the renowned Crouch End Festival Chorus have a charity concert coming up soon (21 Dec). They are supporting is the sole UK charity that raise funds for the non-standard out of the blue type of heart attack that struck my wife in May 2023. Details of the concert are here:
    https://beatscad.org.uk/About-Us/Events ... -Christmas

Sadly, my wife an I can't make it to the concert, North London is a bit too far away for an evening out.

I apologise, I won't be able to make it.

I looked around at the website. While I found it after a bit of looking around, the first place I went to look to find out what SCAD meant was the "About us", "our story". It's a pity that this page in particular didn't tell me what SCAD meant.

I see that it's a condition which predominantly affects women. Medicine, for all that it has done, seems to concentrate on white men, and it's only been more recently that people are starting to become more aware of this.

I hope that your wife is well.

I know the feeling.
Cheers, Chris

Hope the concert goes well Ken.

And I hope your wife is well too.

My mate was at the North London Polytechnic in the 70s. We saw a lot of pub rock!

That's a good point, I'll contact the charity trustees and suggest they add a link to the page that does tell you what SCAD is:

I'm pleased to say my wife has made a near complete recovery. Apart from swallowing a low dose beta-blocker pill every day, you'd not notice she was any different to before it happened.

I think that's fairly standard for choirs at Christmas. The choir my wife sings with is supporting a local hospice this year.

Unfortunately they seem to assume since they all know what SCAD is, then everyone must know about it, too! This is a fairly common phenomenon, although you'd think that someone else might have pointed out the lack of information some time since 2015!

Highgate is rather too far away from me - and far too posh! - but I wish the concert, and your wife, well.

Because I have been diagnosed with and treated for CAD (coronary artery disease), my inference is that SCAD is a more discreet diagnosis, but I didn't know what the S might stand for. I looked it up and found it stands for Spontaneous Coronary Artery Disease.

Close but no cigar Bob, it's Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection. and it has no connection with 'traditional' heart disease caused by atherosclerosis:

Thanks for the correction, Ken.

I did read the article but the information didn't persist to my typing.
