Google acknowledges my raised bed!

Post by ChrisGreaves »

Google maps has documented my new raised bed in the back yard.

In this image the northerly gales arrive from the top, the sun shines from the bottom,
The red dot shows where grass clippings are dumped and where stale soil is remediated.
The 24'x16' bed is the brown area immediately to the south of the house.
The second driveway was ripped out four years ago and now appears as the "driveway bed" leading to the hydro pole - whose shadow crosses the street. That bed was an all-artichoke bed last year, but this year those are declared weeds, and are ripped out daily to give the twenty gooseberry bushes room to grow and bear fruit. (Coming to a cooking conference near you Real Soon Now)
Cheers, Chris

How lovingly appropriate! Due to unforeseen delays this year, my raised bed is a little bare this summer.

A little bare - that would be ursula minor. This was your way of swinging this wayward thread into astronomy?

Ok, Ok! You get water from a pole in Newfoundland? What is a hydro pole?

It's more complicated than that Bob. Electricity doesn't grow on trees, you know.

It grows on dead trees.

Here in Newfoundland we chop down living trees then re-plant them in the ground outside houses and McDonald's restaurants. Because Newfoundland is an island and the islanders are insular, wires are strung along the top of poles, wrapped around insulators (see, we are not STUPID!) and then they pour in the electricity at places like Muskrat Falls and Churchill Falls(1), the first being an economic disaster for Newfoundland, and the second being an economic disaster for Newfoundland.

Now those two places have each a dam to hold back the water (hence "Hydro" for some reason), but it still gets here as rain on days like today.

If the dry weather continues to 9pm we can all go out and mow our grass at ten o'clock tonight.

I hope this clarifies something.

(1)The story goes something like this: Newfoundland sells electricity to Quebec for something like half-a-cent per Kw H (take a look at your last month's electricity bill) and Quebec takes what little it needs, and sells the rest to New York State and other rich places like Manhattan for 50c per Kw H.
"STUPID" is definitely not a word that describes us here.
Cheers, Chris

Nothing like the four Yorkshiremen!

They would have gone into what it was like before the development in the photo took place!

They might have had some say in riding the bicycle along that street though.
