Paranoia

Post by ChrisGreaves »

So this morning I worked in the kitchen, after I had scraped a four-foot wide path clear of ice right down the driveway. I am waiting for the delivery of my load of hardware from Lethbridge. Keeping an eye out for Craig/Greg who woke me at 8am with a phone call.

The laptop is on the kitchen bench; I am facing the window that looks out to the street. The phone is to my left hand side as I clean up a workbook, send replies to emails. By 11:30 I am checking YouTube videos and see, perhaps my favorite piece of nostalgia going back fifty years The Beatles - Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End (Official Music Video).

The video is 5m23s long, and after less than a minute I think “I gotta download this”, so pick up the phone, WiFi ON, TubeMate, choose YouTube and guess what pops up.
The Beatles - Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End (Official Music Video) at 5m23s with a tag “Continue watching?”.

Big Brother of course knows that the video is now at the 1m30s mark on my laptop and thinks that I am going outside (to accept delivery?) and would like to keep listening on my phone.

I’m still thinking about all this.
I’m not paranoid, mind, …
Cheers, Chris

I'm slightly confused (so what's new). Did you mean
The Beatles - Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End (Official Music Video) at 1m30s with a tag “Continue watching?
Best wishes,
Hans

Remember, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean the b@st@rds aren't out to get you!

No. I meant
The Beatles - Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End (Official Music Video) which I was watching on my laptop.

The "continue watching" was appended on my phone!

HTH!

I was afraid of that.

Paranoia simply means that you have all the facts.
And just like that I have to find a new signature within the next nine days.
You KNEW, didn't you!
I knew that you'd know :flee:

I was wondering whether the phone suggested continuing watching at the exact point where it was playing on your laptop...
Best wishes,

Hans, I'm sorry to take so long in responding. It took me AGES to find a YouTube video I hadn't already watched ...

On the laptop I finally found The INSANE New Electric Buses of Amsterdam and started watching it, thinking it would be another RM Transit Video. But it wasn't.
While the laptop video was playing I restarted the phone, then loaded Tube Mate, searched for "The INSANE New Electric Buses of Amsterdam", and the phone began playing the video about ten seconds behind the laptop.
I think that the ten second delay is reasonable, and I reason that the laptop is probably sending a status signal back to YouTube every 20 seconds or so.
On the smart phone, Tube mate probably asks YouTube for the video and YouTube says "Oh yes. He got as far as 4m08s last time he watched it".

I have noticed this kind of memory when I have chosen (on the laptop YouTube) a video that looked interesting, but turns out to be one I abandoned years ago. Of course the darn thing starts mid-video which interests me until i realize that it's a video i abandoned three years ago.

Cheers, Chris

It's worth a lot. The pop songs of the late fifties and mid-sixties make me feel - young again!
They stop me feeling that I'm growing old.
Thanks, Chris

Finished with my woman 'cos she couldn't help me with my mind,
People think I'm insane because I am frowning all the time.
All day long I think of things but nothing seems to satisfy,
Think I'll lose my mind if I don't find something to pacify.
