Yep, that's much better - in te original versions, the ground was very dark.

It's heather. The location is a nature reserve. During WW2 part of the area was used as an airfield.

Oh sorry, forgot to answer Graeme's other question...
No, I didn't use an ND filter. The foreground was underexposed because the sky was so bright. Blue between big white cotton wool (cumulus) clouds.

Yes and no
You improved the perspective.
Version 2 had a noticeable "stitch" at about 55% (660 pixels) from the left hand side, due to a change in light. That's gone.
But version 3 appears to be less sharp.

Yes, it is 'less sharp' because v2 was oversharpened, giving the clouds an unnatural 'crunchy' look.
