May 6th: The noisiest spot in Great Britain

Post by ChrisGreaves »

Only Eileen's lounge can bring you a prediction for the one spot in England, and hence possibly in The United Kingdom, and even Great Britain. Not to mention the British Isles; so I shan't.

"Fen Drayton Reserve in South Cambridgeshire" is where I'm placing my bet. It is within walking distance of the city of London, a town in the country known as "England" which itself is only a part of a small island off the Atlantic coast of Europe which, let's be honest, is just one of the peninsulas of the vast Eurasian continent, as our geography teacher Mr Pierre deKurloy pointed out in the first term of 1963.

If you can make your way to Fen End Farm, they will likely send you on your way after they've given you a cup of tea and one of Martha Collison's Coronation Crown Scones, unless they've run out of tea leaves, or the local store is closed ("Gone to the coronation!")

If you go by rail, you will most likely find the trains crowded until the Soham station, but once you get off just follow the crowd west.

Scroll about half-way down until you reach "Escape to the country"

You're welcome.
Cheers, Chris

That's just one day after Wageningen will be the noisiest spot in The Netherlands! My small city is the focus of Liberation Day celebrations on the 5th of May...
Best wishes,
Hans

William (and Mary) must be rejoicing in their graves!

...It is within walking distance of the city of London...
 but now that you've made that assertion you've lost your right to ever again claim to be a Brit

Never claimed it. Ah'm a farnwurf lad ...
Anyway, I maintain my original claim, that the spot is within walking distance of London.
Google tells me that it is a mere 20 hr 28 min (62.0 miles) by foot (i.e. 327,360 feet  ) which is not even as far as Bonavista to Clarenville.
I am certain that I have walked more than a mile a year in my lifetime ... :flee:
Cheers, Chris

I've heard it said that one very big difference between Australia and Great Britain is that in GB they think 100km (or say 100 miles if you must) is a big distance, whereas in Australia they think 100 years is a long time

I had heard that, with a new king almost in place, that there was going to be a course of study about the life and times of Charles.

But then they had to cancel the course.

Because the king is not a subject.

Good Point again.
We moved to Southern Cross in 1956, and the town was as it was.
It was where we lived and that was it.
Now this reference shows that "the town was founded by gold prospectors in 1888, and gazetted in 1890", so when we arrived the town was only 68 years old - younger than I am this day!

Your realisation reminds me of something my youngest son thought inwardly when he he heard an American student say something about 'old', which was something along the lines of "Yeh mate, don't you know this college is older than your country?"

And what a wonderful distinction between "old" and "mature" :clapping: :clapping:
