Thanks Leif, for this bit of computing history. It will not have escaped your notice that those are "net curtains", an early form of firewall that allowed residents to see what was going out in the big wide world, but would not allow pryers to see what went on inside.
Peter Kay discusses this in detail when describing his Bolton (Lancs.) Nan when she talks about "T'internet" and then as she gains experience "Th'net".
