Re: a bit of history
Yes, old buildings work well with this style. It's a pity I couldn't get any further back to get the ruined towers further into the frame and not right on the edge but the castle and land around it is private and there is only a narrow, fenced, permissive path around the perimeter so views are fairly limited.

A more conventional photo, taken a bit further round the path.

Re: a bit of history
The other bit of history in the village of Sheriff Hutton is that the son of Richard III who died age 11 is buried in the parish church, meaning it's the only parish church in England with a tomb of a Prince of Wales.
At least that's what the info in the church says. Wikipedia thinks otherwise.

So reminiscent of the American tourist who asked why they didn't build Windsor Castle closer to Heathrow Airport...

And with further apologies to our American readers...
My youngest son once overheard an American tourist inside York Minster, which like just about every mediaeval building in the country is has scaffolding up somewhere to aid its constant repair programme, wondering when the building was going to be finished

Re: a bit of history
In 1485, the pretender to the throne, lambert Simnel, was transferred from the castle to the Tower of London by Henry Tudor.
I'm guessing it was his title that gave him away!
