Proof of Instantaneous Teleportation

Post by PJ_in_FL »

I have proof of instantaneous teleportation!

We have been teleported to a place much farther north than our home, because

THIS IS NOT FLORIDA!

Wow.
I heard about it and that it would have a great reach. How are things over there? I heard the temperatures could drop 20 degrees in an hour!

That is scary stuff.

My son's friend in Cleveland told him the temperature dropped to -15°C! He was shocked.

Stay safe PJ.

Yes, but that's not in Real Degrees; it's in those Fahrenheit things that the USA continues to use.

I know, m'dear, I know. Far be it from me to suggest that what we want to see is more belligerence from the scientists and engineers, insisting that the influence of the :poland: -born :netherlands: physicist should be laid to rest and that in terms of temperature the :usa: might care to join the rest-of-the-world. I mean, even :australia: went metric in the 1960's, and how often does the temperature drop below freezing there? I suspect that the :usa: just like bragging about how cold it gets north of the :mexico: border. You'll never catch me doing that!
Cheers, Chris :snow: :xgrin:

1974 actually.

The fact of a successful conversion shows that it is possible. And that there really is no excuse for one single country to remain a holdout (well, there night be one or two other small countries) remaining wholly imperial.

Some countries retain some imperial measurements.

Even some imperial measurements aren't the same everywhere. A pint in the USA is 16oz, but 20oz in at least some other countries. Or it was when they had imperial.

Thank you, Geoff. I sit corrected!
Wikipedia tells me "Metrication in Australia effectively began in 1966 with the conversion to decimal currency" (I really should read more!) which is what made me suggest the 1960s. I was harvesting wheat near Nangeenan/Nokanning, and there was a catchy jingle on the radio about the new all-singing all-dancing currency.
I really thought that everything else clicked over to metric two years later, but as Wikipedia says, the changeover went industry by industry.
Interesting to note that if you bail out of a plane, your rate of descent is measured in feet until you hit the water, then switches to metric units. Must remember that ...

We will skip over Western Australia dragging its feet until 1988. I was surprised that road-signs weren't changed until 1974, because by that time we had owned a car for six years. I'd have thought that would have been imprinted on my mind.

Now it is time for me to get ready for bed and see, tomorrow morning, what Santa puts in my xmas stocking.
As if I didn't know ... :hairout:
Cheers, Chris :xgrin:

But Chris, it's already Christmas morning. In the nice warm sun. I don't care if it's dark and cold where you are.

Happy Christmas. To you and all the other Loungers.

If we had followed the eastern European traditions of my daughter's family, who we are visiting, Christmas dinner would have been over by midnight. So Hans would have been the double winner. But as it is, we're having a double dinner - a bit so big one on Christmas Eve, and a big one today. And our first Christmas with a grandchild.

However, it's still warm down our way. So Hans would have to wait for mid year to get that victory as well.

For my part I wish you and yours not quite as many floods and bush-fires as last year

Down in the backward state of Florida, we do hear of miraculous things you people in the civilized northern world have, like something called "heater". We would never dream of having something to make our houses WARMER, that would be crazy! But now, we're thinking, maybe not so much!

May this Christmas find you filled with peace and joy!

And STAY WARM!

Can't argue with that.
Maximum gust here yesterday was 111Km/hr. My chimney tops - rectangles of plank wired down to the chimneys, were castanetting throughout the day.

At noon we are at 4c heading to 5c.
I am not complaining!
Although I am having trouble finishing off that carton of Vector Cereal.
