NGC4565 - C38 - The Needle Galaxy

Post by Graeme »

Here's my go at the edge on view Needle Galaxy in Coma Berenices from last night. I fitted a new dew heater ring on the SCT yesterday and it did a great job. The guide scope was just starting to mist up at the end of the session. The plan was for a 2200 to 0200 four hour session, from just past meridian to sinking in the West. As it turned out I got started at 2250 and finished at 0150 with resolution failing in the light dome of London.

42 (from 58) x 180 sec lights, 8 removed for satellite trails, 8 removed for London LP. Collimation needs sorting out! I wonder if it's that causing the soft focus?

Why you can't just admit you're a closet UFO hunter, I just don't know.

I endorse the comments by Leif and Hans but will not be able to sleep tonight until I know why a 331/3 rpm of a work by Ralph Vaughan Williams is considered a Bad Thing.
Thanks in advance for any elucidation, Chris

I might admit to that if it wasn't my best guess that the answer to the Fermi Paradox is the hugeness of space and time!

The Long Player is a work of genius, the Light Polution is a sadly, ever growing, PITA!

Around 40 million light years away ... I wonder if it is still there?
Top photography Graeme :clapping:

Thanks Ron. The time machine aspect of astronomy is fascinating. When the photons that my camera sensor collected left the Needle Galaxy there were no mammals on Earth! Pondering that during a visual observing session is a mind blower!

You're welcome! Now who can clear up the London excess lighting? I can't see well enough to image below about 35° when looking West!

And a very nice image it is too! Makes you want to go out and buy a new monochrome camera and a set of filters!

(as he sat pondering, he slipped further down the slippery slope that is the astrophotography financial wormhole!)
