C7 - Galaxy in Camelopardalis

Post by Graeme »

NGC 2403 (also known as Caldwell 7) is an intermediate spiral galaxy in the constellation Camelopardalis approximately 8 million light-years distant.

I captured 40 x 240 second images but the wind was a bit too gusty and 13 of them didn't get used. This one probably needs a good 3 hours to show off the outer regions.

Is that you once again trying to get me into trouble by tempting me to empty the savings account?

Whatever, I like the photo. As Hans said, keep them coming!

Thanks all.

I'll keep them coming just as soon as the clouds go away!

What's amazing to me is that you actually get enough cloudless time in your skies to take these exposures. You, sir, are a very persistent man!

Thanks PJ. Cloudless nights are a lot more rare than I would like them to be, so I am a persistent weather forecast watcher!

Astrophotography might be a good hobby to have in (usually sunny) FL.

Graeme,

Even as close to the Gulf coast as I am, the light pollution in the Tampa Bay area is so bad to make viewing disappointing. My small telescope has sat unused in my bedroom for a few years now.

That's a shame. You could always do some lunar observing?
