Computer History and Nostalgia

Post by John Gray »

Lots and lots of ancient computer history videos which might be of interest!

Particularly fascinating for those who worked with them are the promotional ones for the IBM/360 and IBM/370 mainframes, and the awed excitement of having a mainframe with a maximum of 2 MB of main memory, and a disk drive with as many as 100 MB of data!

And how about Word Processing in 1975?!

... the awed excitement of having ... a disk drive
I loved the wp video where the operator sat staring blankly while the TTY read the paper tape.
Cheers

And if you listen carefully as I tell you that I wrote my MSc thesis on a PC with only 1MB RAM and only two 3.5 floppy disk drives, you can hear this sketch in the background https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKHFZBUTA4k
