And before this all happened, while they were orbiting the earth ...

"I would really love to use fresh milk in my coffee".
"In space, no-one can. Here, use cream".

I heard that when Jeff Bezos decided to allow William Shatner to take his space flight that he had a new toilet installed in the spacecraft, just for Shatner, so that he could boldly go where no man had been before.

If Bezos had really wanted to go boldly where no billionaire had been before, he would have gone to the IRS.

It was only a short flight, was it 20 minutes or so?

Only somebody Shatner's age would have needed a toilet.

And I hesitate to use the term Shatner toilet.

In this context, it always surprised me that the word crap is from Middle English, and that Thomas Crapper's name was just a coincidence.

However, the word didn't originally mean bodily waste. That meaning didn't come until about 1800. But it appeared to be only used in England until the time of WWI. It was quite possibly popularised amongst US soldiers due to the brand name of Thomas Crapper in so many toilets, khazis, loos, privies, heads, WCs, bogs, dunnies and the like.

My dad worked on the original Star Trek TV series.* Apparently Bill was an unrepentant punster and would either have appreciated yours or beat you to it.

Dad brought me tribbles the prop guys gave him. The ones that moved and the ones that just fell out of the bulkhead. No idea where they are now, though I have my suspicions about my brother....

I do still have this, from one of the many strange new worlds, somewhere in the middle of their five-year mission.

You have to imagine it glowing in an other-worldly way.
