A depressing day in this hemisphere ...

Post by ChrisGreaves »

"Discovery Day" in Newfoundland
... and it comes, as usual, before the excitement of my birthday has died down (although all the ice-cream is gone).

I woke up this morning to discover that although the cucurbit seeds have only just pushed their plumicles through the soil, the days are growing shorter, the nights are growing longer, ...

I think I'll lay in a large supply of canned food and go right back to bed.

Slightly adapted from a Google search...
People also ask
Q. Are all cucurbits edible?
A. Some are, theoretically, but all should be avoided with extreme prejudice.

I assume that you haven't invested in cucurbitcoin, John.
Best wishes,

Thanks John.
Any chance of a recipe for this condiment in the Cooking Forum?
Cheers

The ice cream has gone, while we're just passing through the solst ice.

So when the plumicles disappear you'll have icicles to replace them.

It's not so hot in my neck of the woods either. 15degC with thick cloud right now. On the plus side, the heavy rain we had this morning seems to have stopped.

Same here. Last week, we had three days with temperatures of around 30°C, but today it's not even 15°C.
It rained all night and all morning, some 22 mm. Just a bit further to the east, about 50 mm fell in 12 hours, more than half of 'normal' precipitation in June...
Best wishes,
Hans

Geoff, you shouldn't tempt fate with such jokes (grin!). It's only June 22 here in Bonavista; we are not yet past the risk of frost!!

This is good to hear; we had the same just a couple of days before you.
It feels good to be handing off cruddy weather patterns to Europe, instead of staring a slew of sylvan scenes of bluebells, folks enjoying a picnic on the grass, members bragging about sun-tans etc.

That brings back memories! I recall watching it in a rented house on Kahiba Road, Newcastle, so Marg & I must have had access to a TV at that time; perhaps it came with the house, because I know we didn't have a TV once we moved to Gawler.

I just went to youtube and watched an old episode in case it would make me 22 years old again, but there is something gone wrong with my colour control on this newish laptop
Cheers
