Spring started this morning at 6:50a.m. in Bonavista ...

... and I was the first in town to know.

Ignore all that politcal advice about DST, equinoxes, last snowfalls etc. Utter Nonsense.
Spring is begun when the sun makes its first visit to my kitchen, and I can go back to wearing only one pair of pants when I head down to Durdle's.

I opened the kitchen door to grab an off-cut of gyprock ("dry wall") from the stack waiting to go out to the shed and the sun shone between Fred's and Donny's houses, right in my eyes.
I moved out of that line and the sun continued into my kitchen.
Which still looks a mess

The entire house is a total mess, but I now have a back door that closes easily and has TWO working locks, a porch that has been repainted white (no more bare plywood, pink wallpaper, light-brown window-frames and sundry other colours), all interior doors replaced – gone is the varnished brown plywood and in with the gloss white colonial doors, new kitchen sink, drain, three cupboard’s worth of old copper pipe ripped out and only one cupboard-space now used for drain and plumbing; new counter top, new 4’ workbench made from left over of 12’ counter top, cupboards top and bottom painted white (instead of psych-ward puke brown); the plinth that held the wood stove is GONE so I can now walk from my study to the bedroom or kitchen without making a detour around Uluru. David has installed a door to the guest room, with a locking handle to keep the guests in when I want a bit of peace and quiet. David started yesterday in the laundry - repairing the floor before ripping holes in it for the new plumbing, drain etc and I will have my washing machine, laundry tub (NEW feature!) and drier all at one end which means in effect I am gaining an extra (albeit small) room.

All this because I asked David if he could re-seal the old kitchen sink on the old counter.

Did I tell you I am ecstatic?

Once the pair have gone, i will put doorknobs back on all the interior doors, sweep and vacuum a few more times, find the rest of the cutlery, ...

And what, Dear Hans, does stupid old Google know about having a laundry tub in which to soak gardening clothes after being outside (attached)?
The temperature in my heart is an old-fashioned 98.6 and rising!

Cheers
Chris

P.S. I forgot to mention that before David put the new perfectly-fitted plywood in the cupboard floor and caulked it, he sealed off the hole through which a pair of furry little friends with no knowledge of family-planning had been entering to show me where I had left the odd toast crumb on the floor, counter, shelves and so on.

I thought that -3 was a Summer-time temperature in Bonavista. What? No Spring this year? :innocent:

Come on Bob.
Man up!
Use units, not just numbers.

You Texans get a day or two of cold wind and you suddenly are too scared to write "F" or "C" after a number?

FWIW (nothing at all to do with DFW) we do sometimes get -3C in Bonavista. Last time that happened was about 13,000 years ago, though.
Tomorrow we should be at plus 2 as I walk to my dog-sitting appointment. Last Friday was the first real blast of warm air we could see (Ventusky) comin g up from The Carolinas.
Nothing from Texas, though.

P.S. The Guest Room should have a door handle back on it this time tomorrow; gotta let Kerry's paint job dry.
Cheers
Chris

Well, I thought the reference to Hans' post was obvious; and, not wanting to be redundant, left the rest up to you. Or should that be down to you? I seem not to know up from down some days. :hairout:

Hi Dave.
The civilized world, also Bonavista, uses Celsius ("Centigrade" is passée) as units of temperature.
By the way, does this qualify as a Heated Argument, or just a Heated Discussion? :confused3:

2º doesn't count as heated - it doesn't matter whether that's 2ºC or 2ºF.

BUZZZZZZZ :stop: Schoolboy error there.

The units of the Kelvin scale are just 'K', there's no degree sign involved.
