The Elephants Trunk Nebula

Post by Graeme »

From the 19th December. I was going to go for the conjunction but although I could see it, the telescope was too low! So I grabbed some lunar shots and this instead.

9.25" SCT telescope, ZWO ASI294MC camera. 30 x 240 second exposures captured in NINA at 125 gain -10°C. Lost the connection to the mount during the last capture.
But was still able to get a sequence of 10 x darks and then used the NINA Flat Wizard to get 20 x flats, 20 x dark flats.

24 usable light frames stacked in Deep Sky Stacker. .fit file processed in Gimp.

Elephants Trunk Nebula.jpg

The Elephant's Trunk Nebula is a concentration of interstellar gas and dust within the much larger ionized gas region IC 1396 located in the constellation Cepheus about 2,400 light years away from Earth.
