In a previous life I taught Chemistry, a conversation once went like this...
pupil (of less than average ability): "Why a has chemical got an 'h' in it?"
me: "Blame it in Samuel Johnson"
pupil: "Who's he?"
me: "The guy who wrote the first dictionary"
pupil: "I'll do 'im" (i.e. implying something violent might be heading old Samuel J's way)
pupil's mate: "Don't be daft, he's dead"
pupil: "Oh, that's all right then"
