Inauguration music for Eileen's Lounge
So... what could be suitable music for the inauguration of Eileen's Lounge?
I previously posted this (at another place ). Composed for another opening a 100 years ago, or so; Festival Overture, Op. 25, by Hugo Alfvén.
Or, for some less "bombastic"; Johan Helmich Roman's (often called the father of Swedish music), 1 Movement from Drottningholmsmusiken (Drottningholm Music; for a Royal Wedding).
Or, since this is the fifth Lounge (or something close to that ), why not: Take Five with The Dave Brubeck Quartet.
Or...?

Eileen had an irreverent streak, so perhaps Always Look On The Bright Side of Life
Best wishes,

Hi argus
How about the joyous Brandenburg Concerto
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZ9qWpa2rIg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Or maybe more apt, the arrival of the Queen of Sheba
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TGKJ9MgCOQ" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Like all of your choices too

Surely it has to be one of the dozen or so versions of Heart's Crazy on You...!

Or perhaps The Hallelujah Chorus is what many feel about the new Lounge.

Re: Inauguration music for Eileen's Lounge
Thank you guys.
Hans & Leif,
Excellent! (Poor Sousa.)
And now for something completely different...
Steve,
The arrival of the Queen of Sheba, yes appropriate... I wish I could link to "Drottningens av Saba festmarsch" ("Festive march for The Queen of Sheba") by Hugo Alfvén, I would have used that one earlier, but have problems finding a link. But if you would like, you can go to 1:08:19, at the end of this video from the 2009 Nobel Prize Award Ceremony. A bit bombastic again, and yes, Hugo Alfvén again. http://nobelprize.org/mediaplayer/index.php?id=1200" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
John,
Thanks, had forgotten that one.
Geoff,
Yes, I was thinking about that one. Good.

BTW, that's a great take, Argus - though the sound and miking is awful.

Take Five has the big advantage that it is really suitable for a night out with some friends and some beers. I have it playing in another window now and I'm starting to get a thirstGoshute wrote:...The motion is Thirded. Another favorite on my iPod that I rarely skip over...

Re: Inauguration music for Eileen's Lounge
Of the suggestions posted, here are my choices.
• Liberty Bell March. It has that Monty Python, thumb your nose connotation.
• Hallelujah Chorus. Because.
• Brubeck. Solid JAZZ

As a Monty Python fan I am torn between "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" and "Liberty Bell march"

Seeing this lounge is in it's infancy maybe this song by the one and only carpenters is suitable. Dave D

This is quite innovative to say the least~!~! It reminds me of a hand bell choir but with placards. Thanks for sharing this oneIanWilson wrote: Have you seen this YouTube Hallelujah Chorus video?

Re: Inauguration music for Eileen's Lounge
What "happened" to Sousa's fine Liberty Bell March, has happened to many pieces, as we all know. Use it in another context and it will, almost, never be the same again.
Take for example Franz Schubert's well known March Militaire No 1, Opus 51 (originally for piano duet/four hands), not exactly a military march in my mind, but I digress; anyhow, it is used as a march some times, in more serious occasions. But if one has seen what many kids watch every Christmas here, then it becomes just a piece of funny music.
See this, Disney's "Santa's Workshop", (love the chequered paint at 3:10); at around 4:20 a toy band starts playing, yes, March Militaire.
Compare with, if you like, this example of the piece.
Now, back to the topic; yes, I think Leif’s suggestion is excellent, will be humming it every time I see the Admins.
