The only problem with this is that the "fix" might mess up something that was working perfectly before it was "patched." I find it hard to download "fix" software that would then undo the careful tweaking I've given my work laptop, with the help of IT staff. Imagine what would happen if while fixing a minor error (like my system occasionally gets too busy) by disabling the um, hack we put in so I can work on a remote server.
No thanks. I like my IT support guys.

Zounds! So you think that Microsoft cannot solve all known (and unknown) operating system problems?!

To err is human!
To really screw up requires computers!
To ensure admission to Hell requires software!

Hey Microsoft. How about starting a 'don't screw it up in the first place' program?

That would not be very realistic. Except perhaps for very simple "Hello World" type applications, all software contains errors and potential security problems. Moreover, the computing environment is not static - software has to cope with new hardware, other software, hackers, etc. Sun (Java), Mozilla (Firefox) and Adobe (Acrobat), to name but a few, also release bug fixes and security updates frequently.
Best wishes,
Hans
