Spectacular volcano picture
Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day has a spectacular picture of the ash clouds emanating from a volcano on Iceland that have left hundreds of thousands of air travelers (including at least one Lounger and his family) stranded. Almost all traffic over Europe has been suspended since Thursday the 15th of April.
See 2010 April 19 - Ash and Lightning Above an Icelandic Volcano for the full size version.

Geez it looks like Zeus just released the Kraaken again....or else it's Thor vs. Vulcanus.

Re: Spectacular volcano picture
I have just set this picture as my Windows desktop background. I probably won't keep it for long because I usually have fairly plain backgrounds, but it does look good!

I hope so too, but they'd much rather be home, and that's entirely understandable!VegasNath wrote:Somewhere nice I hope?

I put this picture as my desktop background, too. I have to remind myself why I'm lucky to be out here on the prairie, where all we have to worry about is if the sky turns green or the tempy goes way, way south.

This picture of the volcano is unbelievable and yet so beautiful. I’m wondering how many shoots it took to get this one, I’m not thinking I’d want to be there…

You can see star trails in a few of the lightning ones and that indicates the shutter was left open for a few minutes or longer. I hope it was a good long lens from an even longer distance.ABabeNChrist wrote:This picture of the volcano is unbelievable and yet so beautiful. Hans may be referring to someone else but his sentiments certainly capture the feelings of my family and I who were stranded somewhere verynice indeed but were equally desperate to leave and get home again.HansV wrote:I hope so too, but they'd much rather be home, and that's entirely understandable!VegasNath wrote:Somewhere nice I hope?
