Hedgehog
Always nice to see a hedgehog in the garden!

Re: Hedgehog
Are they common in your area? My parents' garden was frequently visited by a hedgehog.
Best wishes,
Hans

Re: Hedgehog
Not sure. We've been here 5 years and just started seeing this one. He turns the pir light on and I've only just put that up, so he could well have been around for a while and we didn't know. Prior to that I haven't seen one for years. When I was young, where I grew up, in the country, we often saw them.

Re: Hedgehog
That's good then. We see the odd dead badger on the road into the village but not often.

Re: Hedgehog
We used to get hedgehogs round here when I was a child, but I haven't seen one for decades.

Re: Hedgehog
I think part of the decline is that people have erected impenetrable garden fences and prevented the hedgehog from roaming. When I was young it was normal to leave a gap for the hedgehog to come and go.

Re: Hedgehog
We have no hedgehogs around where we live. They do t have them in Australia AFAIK. Apparently they were introduced into We Zealand and have become a pest.
We did have a mother and baby hedgehog under the hedge when I lived in England however.

Have New Zealanders got holes in their fences and no badgers?

Re: Hedgehog
I haven't been to new Zealand. So I haven't been witnessing the badger, your honour.

Re: Hedgehog
We don't have hedgehogs, but we do have echidnas.
I didn't want to post a photo from the Web, but I saw this one while I was out walking today. It's only the second time I've ever seen one in the wild up close and personal.

Re: Hedgehog
Cute, but definitely not cuddly!
Unlike the echidna, thse were in a wildlife reserve which is a part of a different morning walk.
