Robot Miners Take Over Western Australia

It is not clear to me whether this is truly Robotic (1.e. autonomous control) or whether it is electro-mechanical control.
I think that some 5-10 years ago some of the mining operations in the north were controlled from an air-conditioned office in Perth, some 2,000 Km to the south. This was, to my mind, fly-by-wire.

The text reads in part "The autonomous trucks operate 24/7 in the autonomous zone", but I am a tad skeptical because it is a piece of reporting promoting an issue.

The savings seem to be on a par with automation projects, "... increase average train speeds by 6%, ..." and ... cut an hour off the average journey. The section run-time variation between services is also down to 15-30 seconds, against 2.5 to 5 minutes when the trains were manned.. So it is all about big-numbers over long periods.
Cheers, Chris
