Another simple puzzle

Post by StuartR »

Here's another simple puzzle to entertain you for a few seconds.

Francis is married. Alex is not married.
Francis is looking at Sam, Sam is looking at Alex
Is a married person looking at a person who is not married.

A) Yes
B) No
C) Don't have enough information to say

My brother pointed out that Sam might have been a cat which would change the answer.
I guess I should have said that Francis, Alex and Sam are all people (of unknown gender)

Surely gender doesn't matter for marriage any more?

Though I haven't heard of anyone marrying their cat!

I can see how Hans answer could be correct but
Spoiler
it does not say that they are in a line, if they are in a triangle shape then you do not have enough info
Unless I am completely and utterly wrong....yet again.

If Sam is a dog, the puzzle makes little sense. But if, as Stuart later stated, Francis, Alex and Sam are all persons:
Spoiler
The relative position of the three is not important.

Sam is either married or not married.

If Sam is married, a married person (namely Sam) is looking at a person who is not married (namely Alex). That Francis is looking at Sam is not relevant in this situation.

If Sam is not married, a married person (namely Francis) is looking at a person who is not married (namely Sam). That Sam is looking at Alex is not relevant in this situation.

So in all situations, there is a married person looking at an unmarried person.
Best wishes,
Hans

But surely, the main question here is "what is the baby's name gonna be ?" Or am I in the wrong thread ?
Cheers, Claude.

Excellent question Claude! I can see where the thread confusion is coming from...
If Sam is the dog, then Francis and Alex will probably call the baby "Prince" seeing as all that he is out of the hospital now.

Tarquin? You'll have better luck with Edward!

A search for Tarquin yields some :yikes: names...
Superbus - in our modern day that is the Airbus A380 - a real super bus
Priscus - is that a type of hibiscus flower?
Sextus - well...how will I ever call my kid that!! Imagine the torture at school! :groan:

Hmmm - rather controversial, perhaps?
At least my suggestions were cultural.

In my view, only controversial to those who seek controversy, but exactly what is 'cultural' about 'Nigel'?
