I was greeted with some lovely pink/purple hot pixels in the top left of my monitor on turning it on this morning so I've started Googling for a replacement. So far I've come up with:
LG IPS226V or IPS236V
Iiyama Prolite X2377HDS-1
Viewsonic VP2365-LED
Anybody here know anything about any of these monitors? I particularly want an IPS panel as my main use will be for photos but my budget will be limited. These three seem to fit these criteria.

The specs for all these are fine - is there a shop where you can view them (more or less) side by side? That might help decide.
I've always liked the Dell UltraSharp series - the U2312HM (black) is currently on offer for £179.10.

That would be nice but I'm not aware of anything locally.HansV wrote:is there a shop where you can view them (more or less) side by side
Thanks for the tip about the Dell, I'll see what I can learn about that one too but my initial searches suggest I could get any of my three for around £30 less than it's £180 price tag.

I like you ViewSonic choice ONLY because I have a 19" flat screen in trouble-free use for several years and I like it.
Unfortunately, your selection seems to run in the $300 neighborhood which (in £) is quite above your goal/target.
Good luck.

Re: looks like I need a new monitor
I recently replaced a Viewsonic (dvi connected) with this AOC monitor. This is HDMI connected and I was amazed with the clarity. The one thing I didn't take into consideration is just how wiiiidddeee it is (resolution is 1980x1020) I've had to get used to running thing NOT full screen.

Thanks, I'll read up on this one.jonwallace wrote:...this AOC monitor... The one thing I didn't take into consideration is just how wiiiidddeee it is (resolution is 1980x1020) I've had to get used to running thing NOT full screen.
As for wide, I can cope with wiiiiddddeee At work I have two x 21.5" monitors and occasionally find myself wishing for a third one
The limiting factor here at home is the available workspace in the study. Mind you, I'll have to take a saw to the end of the shelf what ever I get by way replacement. Just have to pick my moment carefully when I have to reveal that aspect of upgrading to my better half

Re: looks like I need a new monitor
I'm sure I came across it at around £150-£160 but may be that was for the previous version (which has a v. similar model number, VP2365wb). I'll have to look more carefully. From what I've read it seems the Viewsonic is excellent for photos. Especially if it is properly calibrated with a 'Spyder' type device.Bigaldoc wrote:Unfortunately, your selection seems to run in the $300 neighborhood which (in £) is quite above your goal/target.
