Hello –
(I’ve run a virus check – no threats; I rebooted; I unplugged/plugged in the keyboard)
(WinPro, Word 2003)
(Device manager said keyboard working correctly) (Did a SysRestore)
When I turned on PC this morning, insteading of being able to hit the Enter key to log in, I had to hit OK (System could not log you in message)
When I tried to type in Word 2003, pressing the “n†key brought up “nm†on screen. Same when I pressed ‘m.’ When I hit "b" I get "bv" and when I hit 'v' I get 'bv.'
When I pressed right arrow, I got the slash (/)
When I hit the spacebar, I’m taken to a new line.
Short of trying another keyboard, is there anything else I might try?
My thanks!
(when I type in this window, hitting 'n' is ok, just the 'n' But hit 'v' brings up bv;
typing n os ok; typing 'm' brings up 'nm')

Re: Keyboard not working correctly
Those symptoms make me suspect there's a short-circuit in the keyboard. Just getting a few "wrong" characters could be caused by a wrong keyboard setting in the Regional and Language Options control panel, but getting two characters when you press one key is indicative of keyboard malfunction. Did someone spill liquid such as coffee or a soft drink on the keyboard?
You could try cleaning it, on the other hand you can get a decent new keyboard for only a few dollars nowadays.

Thanks, Hans.
The keyboard acts normally in Notepad and Wordpad.

Re: Keyboard not working correctly
Oh - that changes things, of course!
What happens if you select Start | Run..., enter
winword.exe /a
and press Enter or click OK? (This starts Word without loading Normal.dot and add-ins). Can you type normally then?

Re: Keyboard not working correctly
Hans, I am embarrassed yet again!
I hit the bottom of the keyboard several times: small pieces of 'stuff' came out and I'm back in business. Haven't tried signing in again, but am assuming that'll be okay, too.
Thank you for your time and thoughts.

Seen that before. Our data entry staff are forever getting paperclips jammed under their keys. (We normally switch the keyboard for one that's already been de-paperclipped - then lever off the stuck keys and retrieve the paperclip. They usually don't want them back and are oblivious to the hassle they've caused.) Still, it gives me something to do.curious wrote: I hit the bottom of the keyboard several times: small pieces of 'stuff' came out and I'm back in business.
