Ashampoo Again

Post by Bigaldoc »

Not too long ago, BobArch2 started Ashampoo Burning Studio 9 thread about an offer he received. At the time, I told him it sounded like a good one and that they frequently offer upgrades at good prices. I still feel that way, but I'm confused about the way they "call" their product. (And we've talked about THAT before over in the WS place!)

In May 2009 I upgraded to Burning Studio 9 and it's still on my machine. The About screen says it's Version 9.21.

In November 2009 I received an offer (I think it was a freebie!) for Burning Studion 2010 which is also still on my machine and, although I had never looked at it, the About screen says it is Version 9.10... Huh?

Last night I burned a CD for a friend and when I started BS 2010 I got a screen saying there is an update available. So, like a good soldier and loyal user, I allowed the update. What it did is RE-INSTALL BS 9, and asked me for the key. I looked in my files and entered the key from BS 9 (above). I'm right back where I started.

Has anyone had this experience and understand what the heck is going on there? I sure wish these folks would quit with the confusing product names they put in their "offers!" If Version 9.21 IS the latest, I might as well remove Burning Studio 2010..

This is funny, but then again it's not, for a product I like so well! I just went to my BOOKMARKED link for their site and see no signs of anything called Burning Studio 2010. I think back in November I fell for one of their "bring in new business" promos because it doesn't look like there is such a product.

I was gonna write to them and ask, but when I login to my account with them, the page is in German and I can't find a single place to change it to English, so I'm giving up for now. Gotta run...

I found this:
Ashampoo burning studio 2010 (9.10) is a special edition with version 9 core engine and some options removed. (...) The latest version Ashampoo burning studio 9 includes a DVD slideshow creator, movie editor and disc cover designer. Burning studio 2010 omits these modules.
So as you suspected, the 2010 version is actually 9.10!
Best wishes,
Hans

From observation.

The "Burning Studio 2010"-style naming seems to refer to the freebie version that come on cover discs and on those websites (Download junkie for example) that "give away" cover disc programs.

The "Burning Studio 9"-style names refers to the full products the teasers are enticing you to buy (the minx!)

HI Al,
Mine is 2009 but is only version 8.04. and it says there are no updates available????
I will agree about the naming conventions. . . I think I uninstalled a 2008 that really was a newer version than 2009?????? :hairout:

Oh, well, the 2009 is nice and really does all that I need it to do.
