While browsing a website mentioned by Fred in his Design Fences post, I came across a product called Killhost. It offers another approach to block sites. This is not to downplay Andy's great work. I haven't tried it so I'm just adding it here to see if it has any value for Andy's product.

Re: Add-on to exclude domains from right-click?
The KillHost utility serves a different purpose: adding an URL to your HOSTS file with an address of 127.0.0.1 or 0.0.0.0 blocks that site completely on your computer. But it won't block Google from returning search results from that site - the block works on your computer only, not on Google's servers.
Andy's search page is intended to exclude specific sites from Google's search results, so that you don't have to wade through pages of search results that are useless to you.

Hi Sundog. I think you are right. It is another approach.Sundog wrote:It offers another approach to block sites.
I think this approach stops one getting to the site(s), whereas Andy's approach stops one seeing links to the site(s) in a page of returned results.
Does that make sense?

Hans, Chris, thanks for the responses. I thought that the block site approach might be of interest to viewers of this thread, but perhaps it belongs in another thread?

I split this sequence of posts off from the Add-on to exclude domains from right-click? thread.Sundog wrote:Hans, Chris, thanks for the responses. I thought that the block site approach might be of interest to viewers of this thread, but perhaps it belongs in another thread?
