Winamp version 5.9

Post by Ted Myers »

Has anyone here managed to install the new version of Winamp 5.9 and get the presets in English?, I tried it twice and got them in Chinese.
If it wasn't for bad luck I'd have NO luck at all.

Hi Ted,
From where (what URL) did you download 5.9?
I thought that Winamp had ceased development.
If the \URL does not begin with Winamp.com, I would be a bit suspicious, if not downright paranoid.
FWIW I run version 5.52
Cheers, Chris

Hello Chris, I found Winamp 58_3660_beta_full_en_us.exe a few months ago and it worked perfectly. There is an update to version 5.9 but I have just found out Winamp knew the presets were in Chinese and will be fixed in the next release.

Hi Ted.
From where (what URL) did you download 5.8?

Hello, I'm sorry, I don't have a copy of the URL, I just kept a copy of the .exe file.

thanks for this link, bob.
It looks like a re-vamped site, and FWIW I didn't see links to any downloads.

I was primarily interested in the URL that Ted used to either d/l the 5.9, or to read about it, since his original post mentioned problems related to Chinese character sets.

(Later) https://duckduckgo.com/?q=download+winamp+5.9&t=newext&atb=v331-1&ia=web this search shows up several download sites.

Cheers, Chris

Thanks Hans, but no cigar.

also, no scroll bar, no response from PgDn or DownArrow key.
Just a yo-yo like thing towards the bottom right corner of the screen.

Be patient Chris and let the (stupid) animation / (annoying) marketing hype play out. Eventually you will get a download button, under an 'Oldie but goldie' heading.

Chris you have to scroll down several pages. What you are showing is the first page.

The download function for 5.9 is there. Might you be having issues with keys on your laptop?

I will admit the scrolling is slow compared to other sites. Patience my friend! :flee:

Hi Bob et al.
My new keyboard is working fine (more on that later), and PgDn and down-arrow work fine on every other web page today.
Firefox is up to date.

I think I will wait for 5.10

I wouldn't mind so much, but the yo-yo doesn't even reach the bottom of its stroke.

Good morning Chris,

My messages to you yesterday were via my iPad. This morning I got on my desktop, went to winamp.com, downloaded and installed the new version, 5.9. Scrolling on their web site was slow. I can verify that the text is in English.

The direct download link is https://download.nullsoft.com/winamp/cl ... _en-us.exe
Thank you Hans.
i now have a 11,127 KB file on my system, but shall refrain from installing it until get my office back(1).

I left the laptop running overnight and this morning was greeted by the yo-yo bouncing still. i will try with Vivaldi/Chrome later today(1).

Using your link I can get into a web site whose primary domain is not winamp.com, but is - what I think is - the parent corporate domain, that is, nullsoft.com.

Cheers, Chris
(1) the office windows are in and trimmed, but the four-day (four coats) painting job assigned to a so-called VBA expert is delayed by said expert spending far too much time playing on the computer!

Thank you, Bob, for this confirmation. Learning Chinese would have set back my Windows job beyond next weekend (by which time the office has to be finished so I can empty the guest room into the office and the team can start on the guest room windows).

FWIW my current Winamp is running 24/7 on the old DELL laptop, doing its job of providing music beautifully well. That said, I am interested in taking advantage of any enhancements I can find in the developer interface, that will allow me to get back to work on my heuristic cataloguer.

Cheers, Chris
