Free Freemake video downloader

Post by Dave Davison »

Suffered major crash......lost all my free progs, had new computer built, found most of the said freebies like Ashampoo, Revo-uninstaller & iWisoft with the exception of Freemake video downloader and thought this site http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details ... oader.html would solve my problem BUT sadly the version they offer only allows 3 minutes duration videos & the feed back comments are less than complementary. Could anyone perchance point me to a link that offers a free down load, even an old version will do. :scratch: :thankyou:

Very misleading website then - there is no mention at all of this restriction. That would be reason enough for me to avoid this application...

Older versions are available from https://freemake-video-downloader.en.up ... indows/old" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and perhaps http://www.oldversion.com/windows/freemake/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
But as always be careful and look out for unwanted extras!
Best wishes,
Hans

Thanks for the searching Hans but sadly the first one flashed up a warning and the second has no Down-loader only the Converter prog so it looks like I'll give up till I see if I can bring my old drive back to life with a second hand circuit board which the shop owner is going to look for on EBAY. Thanks anyway Dave.

I tried some other sites that offered older versions of Freemake Video Downloader, but all of them wanted to install unwanted extras... :sad:

If you cannot find a viable version, you could look into some other downloaders. Use alternativeto.net to search for something similar. If you use FireFox, I can recommend the Video Download Helper extension.

Goes without saying but this forum is -for me - a God send; Thanks for the researching. Yes I gravitate to Firefox and have seen the downloader you
mention Rudi so will bear that in mind. Still on the same subject, can anyone point me to the free downloader which - when installed - displays a tab at the position of the arrow in the screen shot please? Thanks Dave.

That might be the feature called: savefrom.net.
Once can download it and it integrates into your browser.
Image 001.jpg
An alternative to installing it is to simply type the letters "ss" infront of the path. For example:

normal path sample: https ://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEkSYw3o5is
edited path sample: https ://www.ssyoutube.com/watch?v=WEkSYw3o5is

That ringed tab seems to fit the bill, is it one of the add-ons for Firefox? Regards Dave.

So glad you could help Rudi, will certainly keep on fishing as I did have a free version on the computer that crashed that did not enforce a duration limit of the video to be DL. Kind regards Dave.

EagleGet is my best free all-in-one download manager, it can also automatically detects media contents on any website :evilgrin:
it also let you choose between video formats and resolutions before you download it. (check here https://prnt.sc/h9ztii )

http://www.eagleget.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

alternatively, you can use 4k video downloader it's free and more reliable, it also has the ability to download playlists, channels and subtitles from YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo and other video sites in high quality.

https://www.4kdownload.com/products/pro ... downloader" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

or you can simply use the below website just copy and paste the url to it
http://en.savefrom.net/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

i hope this will solve your issue :cheers:

Thanks for the links, I am familiar with the last one you mentioned and Video DownloadHelper so might explore the second one. Should anyone else read this who might just know or come across a link for Freemake Downloader I would still like to get my hands on it. Thanks.

Old version of Free Freemake?vLook at my box!i

Post by Doc.AElstein »

Hi Dave, how are you?

I am not sure if any of the following might help you, as I am not too sure what I am doing, ( most of the time, Lol… )
But it might be a way to fiddle a newer version of something to work like an older version

Anyways…
So I remember we talked about these converter and download things about a year ago, ( Nov 2016 ) here…
http://www.eileenslounge.com/viewtopic. ... 46#p195671" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Amongst other things we discussed the Free Freemake Video Converter which also does ( did ) download…
I downloaded the .exe file back then in November 2016, and opened it which lead to it installing it as described in that Thread above.
I have the .exe file still here:
FreemakeVideoConverterSetupDOTexe.jpg https://imgur.com/9UHpKgp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I uploaded that File to a File sharing place today.
Here is the link they gave when I hit "Share" after it had finished uploading:
https://app.box.com/s/dkdjt6htwtfwnm25wwbagpe7hszvpt4z" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So I downloaded that on another computer today. I opened it, which lead to it installing and It seemed to install OK , ( you have to be careful to do the custom download so that you do not get a lot of crap. ( I explained all that in the other Thread ) ).

I ran the newly downloaded software and converted a Video which I had done exactly the same a few days ago on the original downloaded software on the original computer that I had downloaded it on back in Nov 2016.
It gave me similar results, except that an extra thing is written the whole time in the middle of the screen.
freemake2017logo.JPG https://imgur.com/iaghqYt" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Also it does not let me download – it tells me to get the paid version for that.
CantAddUrlCantDownloadinFreemake2017.JPG https://imgur.com/kdiHSZt" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
( My old version lets you download )
I do note also that when I run that newly installed software, then it says at the start something like version 4.1.10
When I run the original software on the original computer ( on which it was downloaded in Nov 2016 ) , then it says 4.1.9
I expect when you run that .exe file then it probably grabs other stuff from the internet, - … ( You certainly need to have your computer connected to the internet for the instillation to work ) – … if that is the case then you might then just end up with a new version that you do not want.
(The video I converted is about 11 minutes long)

But I also found this on my computer
Freemake Folder.JPG https://imgur.com/8lHnik9" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And here it is at a free file sharing site :
Makefree my box missus.JPG https://imgur.com/0zy5h4V" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Here the share link:
https://app.box.com/s/xbp70xvc1bw8juo54iga5rpq0a0o8uau" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I had no idea if you could do anything with that..but.. I had a little play about ( in the snow outside) and then came back inside to the computer and experimented a bit … I think I finally found by trial and error a way to get an older version working after a download and install of a newer version…

Thus is what you do.

_1) Install it - you can use my .exe file if you like for Freemake Video Converte:. To do that just download from https://app.box.com/s/dkdjt6htwtfwnm25wwbagpe7hszvpt4z" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and open it or double click on it to set it off. ( Make sure you are connected to the Internet. ). Make a note of “where it goes” – by default that is usually in the install set to something like
C:\Program Files\Freemake ,
but in the install you can choose to send it somewhere else . ( I usually send it to an external storage place – I sent it in my experiment to the G: drive – I am borrowing my father in laws Win 7 computer and he seems to have an internal unused Hard drive there at G: .. )

_2) When it is finished, look for it and check what is in the Freemake Folder: It should look something like this:
ProgramFilesFreemake2017.JPG https://imgur.com/064R7S4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

_3) Now download my old Freemake Folder from here https://app.box.com/s/xbp70xvc1bw8juo54iga5rpq0a0o8uau" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Put it somewhere , it does not matter where. Find the contents of my old Freemake folder. They should look similar to you found in the Freemake Folder in step _2) ( I put it in an arbitrary named Folder, “DownloadedFreemakeInAlansbox”, that I had made previously )
LookAtAlans box.JPG https://imgur.com/XMawQCf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

_4) Now delete the content of the Freemake Folder from step _2) and replace them with the contents of my old Folder from step _3)

_5) If you run Freemake Video Converter now, then it should work as my old one does

So that will get you the old version from about 2016. I think Dave, you mentioned to me that your ( now sadly lost ) old versions were a lot older. So a 2016 version may not be old enough for you. But if you can find anyone else with an older version, then you could ask them for a copy of their Freemake program Files ( Their Freemake Folder ). You may then be able to follow the same procedure and get the older version up and running on your computer.
Possibly it only works if the two versions are close. I don’t really have a clue what is going on.
But it is useful for me as I will be wanting to do some stuff I did in the last couple of years on my new computer, (if I ever get the damn thing to work again ), so I will want to possibly download stuff I already have a year or two ago..

Possibly you may need to fiddle around with exactly what files you replace…

Appreciate that marathon reply Alan, rummaging through You Tube uploads I found
http://www.freemake.com/en/installation ... 4B821FD78E which does the trick though by clicking "Continue" it tags a branding caption of the maker for three secs at the beginning and end of the download which I can live with. If desired, both are easy to remove using iWisoft or ConvertXtoDVD converters. You Tube down loader turns out to be faster than Freemake but it's good to have alternatives. Regards Dave.

Hi Dave
Yes I am finding more and more that it is both good to have a few different solutions as well as trying to understand as much as possible about these computer things, otherwise you can get caught out when things go wrong.
It is good to have the forum to find and share the solutions.

If I get my new computer running reliably then I may try to reduce using my old one too much to extend its life, and dedicate it to using some of the older software stuff one gets which tend to work well but are difficult later to replace.

Amongst other things this Winter I am trying to build a good play list of videos on the Python language which I am hoping to learn over winter to broaden my horizons a bit. I use WMV so that I can leave a built play list running in the background while I do other things. I find that a good efficient way to learn.

Currently I
either:
_ download using 4k if I need to download a more than one at a time, - as toradoya mentioned , it is good for that – it allows you to download a play list rather than having to download one video at a time as most other Downloaders and Converters do. Then I convert to WMV 1080x1920 ( mostly using Any Video Converter) which gives a great full resolution WMV video.
or
_ for single videos I just drag in or paste the URL in the Any Video Converter converter and it downloads initially before going on to convert, ( the older version of Freemake Video Converter does the same but has the Branding that you mentioned )

Any Video Converter is very slow, I expect possibly deliberately made so to distinguish it from the paid version. Fair enough : if I do loads with the free one reliably, then I might consider finally trying a paid version, - maybe I will ask Santa to bring me one at Xmas. Running overnight is also a good option, as is having an older machine dedicated to doing such things in the background.
