Recommendations For A PDF Reader
Can anyone recommend a good PDF file reader other than Adobe Reader. I am wanting to remove it because part of its latest update causes Win Patrol to give a pop up window that has to be accepted or rejected on each boot up or restart. This problem is described in this link if you haven't yet experienced it. http://www.winpatrol.com/adobe.html The only thing I don't see the author doing is recommending a different PDF reader. So if you have any recommendations for one please tell me what they are. Thanks.

Re: Recommendations For A PDF Reader
I've been using Foxit Reader for several years now. It works well and it's fast, but you have to be very careful when installing it - they usually offer undesirable extras during installation.
For a lightweight reader, you might try Sumatra PDF or Slim PDF Reader.
JoeP mentioned PDF-Xchange viewer.

I recommend Sumatra PDF also.I was on the search for a replacement reader a while back and John Gray put me on to Sumatra. Good move.

I use Foxit at home but I can only vouch for it's PDF reading capability as I've never had any call to use it for anything other than read a PDF.

This is an old thread but I just came across a free and what is recommended to be a great PDF reader and editor for the casual user, PDFGear. You can read about it here and decide for yourself if it's for you, About PDFGear.

I think I'll pass on this one:

Just because you can ignore the inclusion of a ChatGPT sidebar doesn't mean that the included ChatGPT sidebar isn't learning from the PDFs you open with PDFGear. It even has a built-in ChatGPT sidebar so you can use AI to chat with your PDFs — but you can ignore this if you want!

I have been using PDFXviewer Portable for ages, sadly it has been discontinued.
If it wasn't for bad luck I'd have NO luck at all.

Re: Recommendations For A PDF Reader
I have too, but in all those years I have not found a way to create or edit a PDF file using it. Every time I try, it directs me to a paid version of Foxit. The one I just posted above, so far, I have learned it will allow editing a PDF file. I have yet to try to create one, but it is supposed to do that also. All for

Re: Recommendations For A PDF Reader
That's because Foxit Reader is a PDF reader, not a PDF authoring / editing application. In that regard it's no different to the way Adobe's free PDF application only reads PDFs and to be able to author / edit them you need to pay money.
It's a long time since I used it but PDFCreator has a completely free version that will create and edit PDF files:
https://www.pdfforge.org/pdfcreator/editions
I stress again, it's a long time since I used this application but when I did, it did the job. By now though the free features might be more limited.

Re: Recommendations For A PDF Reader
Thanks for that information. A while back I did purchase Corel PDF Fusion but its latest update was in 2014, I believe. There were a lot of PDFs it wouldn't even open, let alone edit them. Actually there is an entire thread about this at Corelt PDF Fusion. That's why I am going to give that PDF Gear a try if or when I ever need to do any editing, which isn't very often.stuck wrote: ↑05 Jan 2025, 11:59That's because Foxit Reader is a PDF reader, not a PDF authoring / editing application.
