Free Audio Recording Software

Post by BobH »

I want to be able to record audio from various web pages that I visit, preferably from within Firefox; but I will consider purchasing an inexpensive app for the purpose. These recordings will be solely and exclusively for my personal use.

Can anyone recommend a Firefox extension or inexpensive app for recording audio from web pages?

 :chocciebar: :thankyou:

I've used Audacity. It's very good, but may be more complicated than you want.

Thanks, Jay.

I've used Audacity in the past but not for recording from web pages. I found information on how to use it for that purpose, but had to install it on this machine. For some reason, I cannot access the audacity.cfg file which prevents me using it.

I did succeed in downloading the backing tracks I wanted. There is a component of Windows called Voice Recorder that I used; but, as has been the case with everything I've tried to do lately, I ran into problems. First, the app was not installed on my copy of Windows. After some searching around, I found that it is available for download from MS Store. I got it installed, but still couldn't use it. More searching revealed that I had to activate a setting called Stereo Mix in Settings > System > Sound. After a couple of failed attempts, I was able to get Stereo Mix active. With it and Voice Recorder and a bit more experimentation, I now have the backing tracks on my system.

Tomorrow I'll look at Audacity again because Voice Recorder has not editing capabilities. I am going to want to create files without the breaks that occurred when I recorded them and turn them into endless loops that I can use for a backing track as I learn guitar riffs, licks and stuff. Audacity will let me do that. I have created ring tones and other audio files using Audacity; so I have some (little) experience with it.

Again, thanks for the response and suggestion.

Audacity also has my vote, Bob.
A very flexible product. For a 'freebie' quite amazing dedication by a group of sound experts.

The few times I've need to do anything with audio files on my PC I've used Audacity.
