Navigation Systems

Post by RonH »

In Europe we have options, mainly the US GPS or the EU Galileo. Anyone know which one our smartphones use  I'm guessing Google Maps navigation uses GPS but maybe it's a combination of available satellites.

Thanks Ken, a good search I missed.

Subject is a whole lot more complex than I thought but I conclude modern phones have ability to pick the best between these two majors. But, certainly my phone has Galileo.

There is an app called GPStest in the Google play store which will show which satellites you are using. My phone seems to be using GPS, galileo, and the Chinese system all at the same time

Yes I also looked at that, Stuart, and got the same 'confusing' result.

Yes. How else does Google Maps know to colour some bits of some roads** orange or red to indicate a traffic jam?

Ken
**Google doesn't need satellite data to know to colour most of the M60 (around Manchester) or the M25 (around London) orange/red, it needs it to know when not to colour it orange/red

And how busy a particular shop is at the moment?

I advise you not to follow my advice.
