.X3F files are RAW files created by Sigma cameras. If you try and open one of these files with the latest version (4.35) of IrfanView it says, "not a valid RAW file" but if you replace just the Formats.dll file (in the plugins folder) with a previous version (I used v4.2.8.0) then the same .X3F file will open without error.
I have reported this to IrfanView. If I hear back I'll let you know.

Better late than never, I did hear back. It's not a bug it's down to changes in DCRAW, which IrfanView uses to handle RAW files. Something to do with licensing. It doesn't look like is going to change.
