Why my image icons have a lock on the bottom left

Post by jmt356 »

I open an image in Photoshop, made some changes to it and then saved it. After I saved it, a small lock appeared on the bottom left of the image icon (see attached screenshot). Does anyone know what this lock means or whether it does anything? I find I can edit the image so I'm not sure in what sense it is "locked."

The padlock icon means that it is a private file (one that only you can access) in a non-private (i.e. shared) folder.

I've never seen this before. Is this a Windows feature or a Photoshop feature?

I was in Word and went to open a file. I used ctrl + O, navigated to the file, but rather than Open with, I accidentally selected Share with. I'm not sure what shortcut key I selected, but after I was done, there was a lock on the bottom left of the image. How can I restore the file to the way it was previously (i.e., not locked)?

I just figured this out by experimenting. Share with | Homegroup causes the lock to be removed.
