Google Wants To Speed Up Your Website
To explain the Page Speed Service is simplicity itself. Google puts copies of your site, updated in real-time, on their own cloud services around the globe and serves them to users from the nearest server to their geographic location, which speeds up delivery.
The service also re-writes your web pages to optimize their content delivery (culling unneeded tags, cleaning up slow scripts, etc). The cleanup is only done on Google's copies, not your own, so your site remains fully intact.
