Malware problem

Post by Dave Davison »

Hi friends, I just received an email from a friend who asks for my assistance but I feel it more appropriate to simply copy his request here and let the experts respond so here goes :-

"I downloaded a "game from Free Ride Games" which put malware on My PC ( quarantined by AVG then emptied. But it installed a toolbar that takes over my browser. Could you ask on the lounge if there's any way of excising it, it's driving me crackers I suspect it a self re-installing one. Do you mind trying to find me a solution to it It's the "Free Ride Games Community Toolbar! It 'greys out my top of the page choice tabs, bookmark etc. and obscures Mozilla with a Large Window. Can you help at all? Walt.

I will forward any reply direct to him so he can apply the solution. Regards Dave.

You could try removing it using Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs.

Otherwise: in Firefox...
1. Click on 'Tools' in the navigation menu and select 'Add-ons'.
2. Select 'Free Ride Games Toolbar' and click the 'Uninstall' button.

If neither of these work, you will need to post back!

An uninstaller such as Revo Uninstallermight find the leftover stuff that Windows uninstaller leaves behind. Do the whole uninstall using Revo. I would also consider using CCleaner to help clean up leftovers.

I don't think this is a malware. There are instructions on their site how to uninstall the toolbar which is also available to download from Brothersoft.

- http://support.freeridegames.com/questi ... stionid=76" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

However the game that was downloaded might be a different matter.
