Hi, I just got a ping from Avast saying there is an issue with my security so checked the system and find that there is a caution marker with the "Device Security" element. Clicking on "Settings" I can't see any obvious setting that has an "Off" button selected. Please enlighten me on ow to resolve this issue. Dave.

This is a known bug in a recent update from Microsoft. You can ignore it for now.

Somewhat on the same theme, I never -as a general rule - sign up for trial periods for apps like Add blocker but all of a sudden I am bombarded every few minutes with a prompt which seems to badger me to purchase the full version. Is there any way I can purge this nuisance from my laptop please it's most annoying to constantly having to delete it?

If I were you I'd:
1) Delete the extension
then
2) Install the extension called 'uBlock Origin'

Most of us here use uBlock Origin and in all the years I've used it it has silently and effectively blocked ads, no fuss, no bother.

To remove your ad blocker:
Click on FF's 'hamburger' icon (the three horizontal lines in the top right corner).
A menu appears.
About half way down there is an option for 'Add-ons and themes', click on it.
A new tab opens, which lists all the add-ons (aka extensions) installed in your version of FF. One of those will be for your ad blocker.
At the end of the line for your ad blocker there will be three dots, click on it.
One of the options that appears will be 'Remove'.
Guess what happens if you click on that option?
Once it's been removed stay in this 'add-ons manager' tab...

To add uBlock Origin:
At the top of the tab listing all your add-ons is a search box.
In that box type in 'uBlock Origin'
Another tab opens, listing hits from your search.
The top hit should be for uBlock Origin', click on it.
The page will update and display details about uBlock Origin and give you an 'Install' button.
Guess what happens if you click on the install button?
There may be other steps to complete the installation, I can't remember, but just step through the process.

Hopefully, TOTAL Adblock will be in the list. If so, click on the three dots ... on the right hand side of this entry.

Select Remove from the drop down menu.

BINGO, oh so straight forward when one has precise step by step instructions. My patience will not be so tried now I trust and into the bargain I have the extension you speak so highly of - A BIG BIG THANK TO YOU BOTH, twas one of the best things I ever did when I subscribed to this form, I have learnd so much and don't know where I'd be without it. NB these instructions can be adapted to remove/ install any FF add-on. Simply read the name of a different add-on where these instructions mention your ad blocker / uBlock Origin.
