StuartR, it may be that the earlier version of VeraCrypt that you installed did not require creating a special partition at the beginning of the hard disk.

I guess it's possible that they have changed how they create system partitions. That's a pain

I am using VeraCrypt 1.22 (64-bit) / Released by IDRIX on 30 Mar. 2018.

When I try to encrypt the entire system drive, I get an error stating, "You must repartition the disk and leave the first 32 kilobytes of the disk free (in most cases, you must delete and recreate the first partition)."

How do I repartition the disk and leave the first 32 kilobytes of the disk free?
Regards,

JMT

That is the latest version of Veracrypt.

I've never come across this error when I use Veracrypt, and I have searched the Internet for other people who have the same problem as you, and not found anything helpful.

Can you describe how your operating system was installed.
  • Did you install Windows yourself?
Was it an upgrade from something else or a clean installation?
Is there another operating system installed on the same disk?
Do you have access to any disk partitioning software that you can use to move partitions?

Windows 8 came pre-installed on my laptop. I upgraded to Windows 10 Home. Windows 10 Home is the only OS on my computer.

I have access to the following applications, which I believe can be used to create or move partitions, though I do not know how:
- Windows 10 Disk Management
- StorageCraft ShadowProtect

I have never tried moving partitions on Windows 10, so I am reluctant to offer advice on this.

You could read the reviews here and try one of these free tools...
