CCleaner has moved its domain

Post by viking33 »

CCleaner has moved from the Piriform site to it's own new domain.
It's now at: CCleaner
Anyone who has auto updates should whitelist the new site to continue these updates.

Thanks. It looks like they have renamed piriform.com to ccleaner.com; their other products (Defraggler, Recuva and Speccy) are also on ccleaner.com now.
Best wishes,
Hans

Hope they "Avast" does not mess it up, like they have been doing the AV program!

Well Dave, this article would seem to suggest that unfortunately, Avast has indeed messed it up.

That is sad news.
The program is starting to have Avast difference to its former glories.

Just installed it on my lady's new Windows 10 laptop and noticed the return of the already ticked ... install Avast.
Is this new CCleaner a security issue in the opinion or our Forum experts

It's not really a security risk in my opinion, at least not right now. But the changes since Avast took over don't bode well...

What would you suggest to replace CCleaner?

The alternatives I tried in the past didn't appeal to me; I haven't shopped around recently, so I don't have any recommendations...

I'm no security expert but the level of snooping implied in the article that Rebel links concerns me enough to not update my (now quite old) version of Ccleaner any time soon.

Does anyone know anything, good or bad, about Glary Utilities?

I've installed it and used it to clean up. It seems to be pretty robust, but if it has the means to protect cookies like CCleaner did (I uninstalled it), I haven't found it yet. I also have no idea whether it is more or less aggressive than CCleaner at identifying dross and removing it.

Again, good that one isn't running the latest, or keeping older versions around if there is a need to backtrack.

CCleaner, in my view, falls in to the category of software that usually doesn't need to be immediately updated when there is a new version. It’s software that’s convenient to use; nothing it does is impossible to achieve without it.

I've had it blocked in the firewall for a long time; if recent versions doesn't work with that then there will be no more updates installed; and with the latest changes I think it will stay where it is.

Hans, when I tried to look at 2 of those links, I got this error panel.

What's causing it? Do I need to change some settings?
