MS updates

Post by Dave Davison »

Got prompt today regarding updates BUT I seem to remember the word of caution about installing such immediately before scrutinising what they are. However, there does not appear to be the option to "Download only" only "Install" or am I missing something? :thankyou: Dave.

If you have problems installing them all simultaneously, select a smaller number and install them, then repeat.

If you have that many outstanding updates then I would guess that you haven't been keeping up to date. This can be very risky as there are new security updates at least once a month.

159 updates? :eyeout:
When I updated my netbook last night there were only 6 waiting for me.

Simply restart Windows, using the Restart Now button, then try Windows Update again. This is quite normal if you have such a large number of updates.

I'd leave that one alone. It isn't essential. Now click on Optional (9) and see which ones they are.

Thanks. I looked up the others. None of them appears to be essential for you, so I wouldn't install any of these optional updates.

I don't know if it was this last update but I lost my start menu items inside the start menu, it turned my chrome icon into a folder, and killed my adobe reader. I rebooted which fixed the start menu, deleted the icon off my task bar and pinned it back but darn adobe reader is trying to reach a server (never saw that before) and I'm supposed to report back to Uber boss what version I'm on. I dunno, broken?

FWIW: I've set a reminder to appear on first use every Friday morning (any time post midnight Thursday) to check and install updates on my Win7 system. I avoid Skype because I don't use it and because it has created problems for me in the past, but I generally install other updates and (so far at least) have not had problems known to be caused by updates.

I am running Office 375 (2016) and ALL updates installed.
I have no problems and I do NOT use Skype, but those updates are installed also.

I have no issues with any of the Office products.
