How to untangle multiple backups? A while back my hard drive crashed. I use Carbonite as my backup solution and I hadn't yet mirrored my drive (which I will do as soon as I accomplish this untangling). In restoring my files, I was forced to stop and start several times. Somehow I ended up with many same-named folders in many different places, each of which contains some new files and some duplicate files, and a completely messed-up directory structure. See screenshot for just one example.
Is there a software solution or approach that I could use to consolidate all these same-named folders into a single folder? Ideally keep only their files with different names. For files with the same exact name, append a [1], [2], ..., or similar, so I could sort through them to eliminate dupes, one folder at a time?
Is this the right place for this question, or should it be somewhere else, or its own thread?
Any help or suggestions badly needed! (Even bad suggestions.)
