Quarantine Windows Defender (Windows 11)

Post by RonH »

Defender found a Severe threat which is in quarantine.
How can I find out what it is and then remove it ... I do not see a 'remove button' to use.

Try clicking on the "Threat quarantined". My protection history reveals that a "potentially unwanted app was removed" and if I select that highlighted item, all of the details are revealed.

Thanks John.
I had tried that but got the Windows Security message: 'Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device Yes/No'
Reads as if I would enter into possible complications - though I suspect that there would be another stage before ... :flee:

Is it Ok to click 'Yes' ... I'm guessing that this means the security app but would appreciate expert advice before taking this action.

It's a perfectly normal question, you can safely answer Yes. To view the details of the quarantined item requires administrator permissions.

These are affected files ... OK to delete? Though I guess its a no choice decision and any important system files will be restored.

Lenovo App Explorer is a legitimate app from laptop manufacturer Lenovo. This might be a false positive. On the other hand, do you want Lenovo to suggest new applications for you? If not, you might as well leave it quarantined or remove it.
Best wishes,
Hans

I have a Lenovo laptop but Lenovo App Explorer is not on it. However, having read about it here:
        https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/soluti ... ant-to-use
even if it was on my machine, I can't say I can say I'd ever see myself using it.

For information ... I found the same threat on my lady's Lenovo. Maybe this is wide spread or, as Han's said, just a false positive

Given that it is a genuine Lenovo application, this definitely feels like a false positive.
