Password for a folder?

Post by silverback »

I have a folder containing a number of PDF files. Can I assign a password at folder level?
Thanks,
Silverback

You could move them to a password protected ZIP file, using a free utility such as 7-zip. Windows will open this like any other folder and prompt you for the password when you try to access the files.

Stuart
I'm in my completely dumb mode. How does one use this?
I downloaded it and ran it. Added the folder to archive; nothing seemed to happen. I didn't get asked to set up a password and access seemed normal to foldder and files within.

See How to Encrypt & Password Protect your Files with 7-Zip
By the way, you don't need to add the folder to the archive, it's sufficient to add the files in the folder to the archive.

Hans

Apologies for the delay in replying.
This forum obviously has magic powers. I am SURE I did exactly what Hans' link said to do, but when I did it I did not get a context menu. I have tried it again since Hans' posting, and it works as expected.
Thanks to you both.
