Email Shortcut to a database

Post by matthewR »

I used to be able to send a shortcut by right clicking on the shortcut and choosing send to and clicking mail recipient. Now it opens in Outlook but I get a message that Outlook blocked access to the potentially unsafe attachments: Shortcut to EmployerPortal.mdb.lnk

What do I have to do to be able to send a shortcut?

A shortcut is seen as a potential security risk. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/284414/en-us" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Microsoft recommends placing the shortcut in a shared network folder and sending a link to the shortcut. Another option is to zip the shortcut and sending the zip file.
Best wishes,
Hans

The shortcut is in a shared network folder. It is a link to the shortcut - Shortcut to EmployerPortal.mdb.lnk

A .lnk file is the shortcut itself, not a link to the shortcut. I should have been more precise: try inserting a hyperlink into the e-mail, or if you prefer sending the shortcut, create a zip file containing the shortcut and send the zip file.

I created the hyperlink which seems to work. Thanks for your help.

Don't mean to be a pest but is there a way to put the hyperlink on the desktop?

No, that is not possible. My other suggestion might be more useful.
