Search in Outlook 2016
In Outlook, when I press ctrl + E, my cursor moves to the search window and a drop-down appears with my 6 most recent search terms. It covers up my search results and I need to press enter or esc to remove it. Is it possible to cause it to not display by default?

No, that is not possible. You could add your vote to this request: Do not show search suggestions ( history ) in Search field of Outlook 2016
