Send won't send

Post by silverback »

Oh dear. I'm not getting on with Outlook 2016/365 very well.

I've produced and email and sent it. It is sitting in Outbox and nothing I've done will induce it to actually send.

I'm doing something wrong/Stupid, but what, please?

Do you see "Working offline" in the status bar of the Outlook window?

Try starting Outlook in safe mode:

- Press the Windows key+R
- Type the following, then press Enter or click OK:

outlook.exe /safe

- If prompted, select a profile, then click OK.
- If prompted, accept the license agreement.

Can you now send a message?
Best wishes,
Hans

Hmmm. Not at first.
When Outlook opened I clicked on Send/Receive, but the email did not send. Tried a few times, but no joy.
Then I opened the email and clicked on Send, and the email went immediately. (I had tried doing that sequence of actions many times before I posted on Eileen's Lounge and it would not Send)

What happens if you restart Outlook normally and try to send a message now?

It won't send. I did notice the following, as I was in the Outbox folder when I tried it.
I opened the email and clicked on Send. The display of the email in Outbox changed to italics then back to normal font and the email failed to Send.
Also noticed the Date details at top left of Outbox display changed to Date : Today then quickly back to Date : None
I then opened Outlook in Safe mode again; the email still would not send using Send/Receive, but when I opened the email and pressed Send, the display in Outbox changed to italics, and then it was sent with only one or two seconds delay.

Try Hans's advice regarding creating a new profile.
In addition to Hans's help, see if any further advice from these articles help. Skip ones that you have already tried and attempt the other steps...

Rudi

:thankyou: Hans. :thankyou: Rudi
How can I put this - everything seems to be working OK today. So it would seem to have been an ISP/Mail server problem.

However, Rudi's links show that while this is not a common problem (email stuck in Send) it's not uncommon. Weird.

Anyway, many thanks, again.
